Overview
Almanac is a Chrome extension that manages your browser tabs locally. We are committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what data Almanac accesses, how it is used, and how it is stored.
Data We Collect
Almanac does not collect, transmit, or sell any personal data.
Almanac does not have a server. No data leaves your device except through iCloud Drive sync, which is an opt-in feature that uses your own Apple iCloud account.
Data Stored Locally
Almanac stores the following data locally on your device using Chrome's built-in storage APIs:
- Open tab metadata — titles, URLs, and favicons of your open tabs
- Archived tabs — tabs you have saved for later, organized into groups
- Read-later items — pages you have bookmarked within Almanac
- Tab screenshots — thumbnail images of tab content, cached locally
- Settings — your preferences such as theme, view mode, and grouping options
This data is stored in Chrome's extension storage and IndexedDB. It is not accessible to other extensions or websites.
Permissions
Almanac requests the following browser permissions:
- tabs, tabGroups, windows, sessions — required to read and manage your browser tabs
- storage, unlimitedStorage — required to persist archived tabs and settings locally
- activeTab, host permissions — required to capture tab screenshots for the visual tab preview
- sidePanel — required to display Almanac in Chrome's side panel
- nativeMessaging — required for the optional iCloud Drive sync feature via the Almanac Sync Helper app
- favicon — required to display website icons in the tab list
iCloud Drive Sync (Optional)
If you enable iCloud sync, Almanac writes sync data to your iCloud Drive folder via the Almanac Sync Helper companion app. This data includes your open tabs, archived tabs, and read-later items. The data is synced between your own devices using your Apple iCloud account.
Almanac does not have access to your iCloud credentials. The sync operates through file system writes to your local iCloud Drive folder, which Apple's system services then sync automatically.
Third-Party Services
Almanac does not use any third-party analytics, tracking, advertising, or data collection services.
Data Deletion
Uninstalling the Almanac extension removes all locally stored data. If you have enabled iCloud sync, sync files remain in your iCloud Drive at ~/Library/Mobile Documents/com~apple~CloudDocs/Almanac/ and can be deleted manually.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated revision date.
